Since the fall of the Awami League government in Bangladesh last August, social media platforms like Twitter have turned into rumour mills. Even some international media outlets, intentionally or unintentionally, have spread false information.

Some media, particularly in a neighbouring country, have portrayed post-uprising Bangladesh as turning into a "militant state" and reported false claims of widespread attacks on minorities, especially Hindus.

Recent incidents have highlighted how harmful the impact of disinformation can be.
