Tigresses succumb to series defeat against Ireland
Bangladesh women's cricket team suffered a massive 47-run defeat in the second WT20I against Ireland and have lost the three-match series with one game to go at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.
The Tigresses' batting fell apart chasing 135, and were bundled out for a mere 87 in 17.1 overs. Orla Prendergast finished with 3-13 while Arlene Kelly and Laura Delaney took a couple of wickets each.
Only three Bangladesh batters – Sharmin Akhter (38 off 43 balls), Shorna Akter (20 off 21) and Dilara Akter (10 off 10) – could reach double figures in what was a sorry display for the hosts.
Bangladesh's chase never got going as they lost four wickets for just 22 runs inside the sixth over.
A 48-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Sharmin and Shorna kept the side in the chase but once Delany broke the stand in the 13th over by dismissing the latter, the tail fell apart with the final five wickets falling for just 17 runs.
Sharmin stayed at the middle till the 17th over, before departing as the team's eighth batter and becoming Kelly's second scalp of the day.
Earlier, Laura Delany (35 off 25 balls) and Orla Prendergast (32 off 25) helped Ireland post 134-5 in their 20 overs after opting to bat first.
Left-arm spinner Nahida Akter finished with 2-20 in her four overs, while Jahanara Alam, Jannatul Ferdous and Fahima Khatun took one wicket each.
Ireland now have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. They had won the series opener at the same venue by 12 runs on Thursday.
The last match of the series will be played at the same venue on Monday.
