Google’s top trending searches for 2024: “demure meaning” among top searched
As the year comes to an end, Google has unveiled its top trending searches for 2024 in a blog post on December 10, offering a snapshot of global interests ranging from major sporting events to viral cultural moments.
A viral social media video in August also drove curiosity, as Americans sought to understand the phrase "demure meaning", according to Google's blog.
Global elections drew significant attention, with the "U.S. Election" emerging as the top trending news search. Political figures such as Donald Trump and Kamala Harris were among the most searched personalities as election coverage surged worldwide.
In entertainment, Pixar's Inside Out 2 was the year's top trending movie, while Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us" topped music searches.
Among food and drink recipes, "Olympics chocolate muffins" claimed the top spot, after Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen's endorsement of the sweet treat during the Paris 2024 Summer Games.
In sports, "Copa América" and the "UEFA European Championship" dominated global search trends.
On Google Maps, Italy's Arena di Verona was the most searched stadium, while Las Vegas' Sphere became the top-searched U.S. attraction.
Innovative search technologies also saw increased use in 2024. Google Lens and Circle to Search were widely employed for tasks like translation, shopping, and identifying objects, often combined with text for deeper contextual understanding.
