Rapper Shezan, who gained widespread attention with the song "Kotha Ko" during the July Uprising, has now ventured into film music. His latest song, "Ei Shohor Swarthopor," has been composed for the film "Priyo Maloti," starring Mehazabien Chowdhury.

Shezan collaborates on this track with Ahmed Hasan Sunny, who is also featured in the song. The lyrics vividly depict the struggles and inequalities faced by Dhaka's lower-middle class, with poignant lines such as: "Manush bhashia jay, dukkher din / Ei shohor barbar, aar khomahin" (People float through their days of sorrow / This city is ruthless and unforgiving).

"Priyo Maloti" is set to hit cinemas on December 20. The song "Ei Shohor Swarthopor" has been written and performed by both Shezan and Ahmed Hasan Sunny, with Shezan also handling its composition and music production.

A teaser for the song was unveiled earlier today at 1:30 pm, with the full song scheduled to premiere at 8:30 pm on Chorki's Facebook page and YouTube channel. Sunny delivers his signature vocal style, while Shezan's rap section adds a dynamic layer to the track.

The song's core message critiques the city's stark inequality, with each line brimming with protest, rage, and frustration. Sunny, in a press note, expressed: "This city is incredibly selfish. It favours only the wealthy. We tried to convey that sentiment through the lyrics, composition, and delivery of the song."

In "Priyo Maloti," Mehazabien plays a resilient lower-middle-class woman whose life is upended by a sudden fire in a marketplace. As the tragedy forces her to confront societal and systemic injustices, the film paints a vivid portrait of a chaotic city that spares the privileged while heaping challenges upon the less fortunate.

Inspired by true events, the story and screenplay of "Priyo Maloti" were penned by Shankha Dasgupta, who makes his directorial debut with this film. Dasgupta aims to question the status quo, emphasizing that human existence cannot be reduced to mere death certificates and post-mortem reports.

The film was officially announced on April 19 last year. After its completion, the release date was initially announced on December 5 and later confirmed on December 13, when the trailer was also unveiled.

Like many in their social stratum, they nurture modest dreams of happiness—cutting a cake on a boat to celebrate their anniversary, strolling in the evening, exchanging playful banter, and sharing small surprises. However, their lives take a devastating turn when a fire ravages the marketplace.

The film has received a "U" grade censor certificate, deeming it suitable for audiences of all ages. "Priyo Maloti" has already been showcased at the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) and the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), earning official selections and widespread acclaim. Despite its deeply local context, the film's themes resonate universally, allowing international audiences to connect with its story and characters.
