A mild cold wave is sweeping over Panchagarh again as the northern district recorded the country's lowest temperature at 9.4 degrees Celsius in Tetulia at 9:00am today.

Though the temperature rose slightly in last three days, but it started dipping again from today, said Jitendra Nath, assistant officer at the Tetulia Weather Observatory Centre.

The area recorded 10.3 degrees Celsius yesterday, while 10.7 degrees Celsius on Friday and 10.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday. On Wednesday, the local met office recorded last week's lowest temperature at 8.8 degrees Celsius.

The temperature started reducing again today as the intensity of cooler wind sweeping from the Himalayan side through the northern region increased slightly due to the clear skies, the official said.

Locals and visitors are enjoying the cold weather during the day, as the area is witnessing a bright sunshine.

Day labourers, rickshaw-pullers, and other daily earners said they can continue their work comfortably during the day because of the warm sunshine.

However, the cold intensifies significantly after sunset as cold wind sweeps through the area.

The weather is expected to remain similar for the next few days, according to the Tetulia Weather Observatory Centre.

According to the latest Bangladesh Meteorological Department bulletin, the depression over the westcentral Bay and adjoining area moved east-northeastwards and weakened into a well-marked low at 6:00pm yesterday. It is likely to weaken gradually over the sea and the ridge of sub-continental high that extends up to West Bengal and the adjoining area, said the bulletin at 9:00am today.

The weather may remain same tomorrow, according to the meteorological department.

The bulletin also mentioned that on December 24, light rain is likely to take place at one or two places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. Weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

Night temperature may rise by 1-2 degrees Celsius over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and it may rise slightly elsewhere over the country. And the day temperature may fall by 1-2 degrees Celsius over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and it may remain nearly unchanged elsewhere over the country.

The temperature from 8 to 10 degrees Celsius is considered a mild cold wave, 6 to 8 degrees Celsius a moderate cold wave and less than 6 degrees Celsius a severe cold wave.
