With the film "Chalchitra", Dhaka-based actor Ziaul Faruq Apurba has marked his debut in Kolkata's film industry as well as on the global cinematic stage.

"Chalchitra" director Pratim D Gupta praised Apurba's performance, highlighting certain attributes that, in his view, align with the charm and versatility of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan.

Speaking to Kolkata's Bengali platform Ei Samay, the director noted that the screenplay for "Chalchitra" was specifically designed to showcase Apurba in a unique and refreshing light.

He further expressed, "I aimed to depict him in an intensely dramatic manner. Having watched his performances, I noticed Apurba possesses a unique charisma, reminiscent of Shah Rukh Khan. I sought to reflect that appeal."

"Chalchitra" hit the screens on Friday (December 20). While Apurba takes on the role of the antagonist, the remaining cast includes artistes from Kolkata.

The lead character is portrayed by Tota Roy Chowdhury. The film also stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Raima Sen, Swastika Dutta, Bratya Basu, and others.

The film's trailer debuted just two days ahead of its premiere. Director Pratim shared his disappointment over Apurba's inability to travel from Dhaka to Kolkata for the promotional events.

Commenting on the matter, Pratim stated, "Apurba's absence from the film's promotions, owing to the current circumstances, was truly disheartening."

He further remarked that the audience would ultimately determine how much the film resonates with them.

Set in Kolkata, the narrative revolves around a string of murders targeting unmarried women, with the perpetrator leaving a distinctive mark at each crime scene.

The investigation into the series of murders leaves four officers completely bewildered. In an ominous tone, Apurba remarks to one of them, "You have only four hours to find the killer."

Beyond the crime scenes and police pursuits, the film explores a father-daughter relationship, a couple navigating a troubled marriage, and stories of falling in love while striving to maintain relationships.

Apurba's appearance, though brief, creates a "lasting impact" on the audience, reported Anandabazar.

The outlet also highlighted the impressive turnout of Apurba's fans on the first day, with viewers traveling not only from various parts of Kolkata but also from Medinipur to watch the initial screening.

Nevertheless, some attendees voiced their dissatisfaction as they left the theatre, citing the limited amount of time Apurba was on screen.
