Japan Airlines hit by cyberattack, flights delayed
Japan Airlines (JAL) confirmed on 26 December that it had experienced a cyberattack, causing disruptions to its network systems and delays to both domestic and international flights.
The airline reported that the incident occurred at 7:24 a.m. JST (4:24 a.m. Bangladesh time) and disrupted network equipment connecting internal and external systems. This resulted in malfunctions in systems used to communicate with external operations, according to an official statement on JAL's website.
In response to the attack, JAL suspended ticket sales for all flights departing on 26 December and warned of delays affecting its flight schedules.
The airline assured passengers that flight safety was not compromised, stating, "There is no impact on safe operations."
JAL has not provided further details on the nature of the attack or its source. Investigations are ongoing as the company works to restore normal operations.
Japan Airlines, a part of JAL Group, is the flag carrier of Japan.
