Dilara hits maiden ton in WBCL
East Zone opener Dilara Akter Dola notched up her maiden first-class century to put her side on top against Central Zone on the opening day of the second-round match of the ongoing Women's Bangladesh Cricket League 2024-25 at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi on Thursday.
Dilara scored 102 off 131 balls with 11 fours and two sixes, while Jannatul Ferdues Tithi and Sharmin Akhter Supta contributed with 65 and 62 runs, respectively, as East Zone made 316-8 at stumps after opting to bat first.
Dilara and Jannatul shared a 154-run stand for the second wicket which give their side a solid platform after losing opener Shompa early.
For Central Zone, left-arm spinner Nahida Akter claimed three wickets for 64 runs, while pacer Lata Mondal took two wickets.
In the day's other match, South Zone finished the first day at 51-2 after bundling out North Zone for 238 runs at the Bangla Trac Cricket Academy Ground in Rajshahi.
Asked to bat first, North Zone struggled at 59-3 before Misty Rani (47) and Sobhana Mostary (31) put together a 60-run stand for the fourth wicket to take their side past 100. North would have only themselves to blame for not posting a larger total as they failed to convert several starts into flourishing knocks.
Salma Khatun was the pick of the bowlers for South as she claimed three wickets for 22 runs, while Shanjida Akther and Sultana Khatun took two wickets each.
In reply, South lost Ayesha Rahman (9) and RH Jhelik (0) early before Shamima Sultana (30) put up an unbeaten 30-run stand for the third wicket with Rumana Ahmed (eight) to finish the day without further damage as they trailed by 187 runs.
