How to Make a Lasting Impression with Your Entryway
There's a popular saying, "Morning shows the day." Similarly, the entrance of an apartment is like the morning—it offers a first glimpse of what lies beyond.
"The entrance to a home sets the tone for the rest of the house, so it's important to strike a balance between aesthetics and functionality," shares Tasnia Aziz Aninda, Founder and interior design consultant at Designspeaks. A functional entryway adds utility and organization to your house in addition to improving its aesthetic appeal.
Find the right wall décor
Your entryway's walls are a blank canvas that can be used to create a striking statement or a subtle elegance. Use peel-and-stick wallpaper with geometric designs, realistic textures like marble or faux wood, or soothing colors like pastels for a modern look. For a dramatic effect, you could also use textured paint or paint one wall a contrasting color. The appeal of the entrance can be increased by using large artwork or a collection of smaller frames in coordinating designs. Mirrors are a great option as well if your apartment is small. "A large mirror not only helps with last-minute checks before heading out but also reflects light, making the space feel larger and more open. A statement mirror can add visual interest and enhance the welcoming vibe," shares Tasnia.
Opt for multifunctional furniture
Selecting the right furniture is crucial for optimizing your entryway's functionality. "If space allows, consider a shoe rack or bench with hidden compartments to keep shoes neatly organized. A bench can also serve as a place to sit while putting on or removing shoes," adds Tasnia.
To keep things looking sleek, go for designs with neutral hues and straight lines. Light wood or upholstered fabric options can provide coziness without overpowering the room. In addition to keeping coats and accessories neat, a contemporary coat rack may provide the entryway a stylish touch. For smaller hallways, a thin console table is ideal since it provides surface area for mail, keys, or ornaments without taking up a lot of space.
Light up the entrance
A welcoming light set-up can amp up the whole look of the entrance. A statement chandelier, semi-flush mount, or contemporary pendant light can be great options to give the space a grand outlook. Choose patterns with metallic or matte finishes and geometric forms for a more sleek and contemporary touch. For a well-balanced and comfortable atmosphere, use wall sconces symmetrically around mirrors or artwork. "For subtle, indirect illumination that creates depth and coziness, use LED strips along baseboards or behind floating shelves. You can also create a light and welcoming ambiance in areas without windows with full-spectrum artificial lighting that replicates daylight tones," shares Khondokar Shakhawat Hossain, an interior design consultant.
Create an ambiance
Adorning the entry pathway with framed family pictures can create a cozy and intimate ambiance. On the other hand, you can include one-of-a-kind ornaments like candles, vases, or sculptures to give the visitors a peek into your personality. The entryway can also be ornamented with scented candles or diffusers that will add a pleasing aroma as soon as someone enters the apartment.
Keep it free from junk
A cluttered space can feel overwhelming and unwelcoming, so keeping it organized is crucial.
