Demi Moore wins her first Golden Globe award
Demi Moore has won her first Golden Globe.
On Monday, Moore received the award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role in "The Substance".
This was her third Golden Globe nomination and her first win. Despite her iconic career in films like "St. Elmo's Fire" and "Ghost", she had not won any other major industry awards, aside from People's Choice Awards honours.
"I really didn't expect this. I'm just in shock right now," Moore shared when she accepted the award. "I've been doing this for over 45 years, and this is the first time I've won anything as an actor. I'm so humbled and grateful", said the actress.
The actress eventually believed it and over the time believed that she had completed what she was meant to do.
"Then, during a low point, a wildly creative, out-of-the-box script called 'The Substance' came my way, and the universe showed me that I wasn't finished yet," stated the actress.
"The Substance" is a feminist tale with a dark cautionary message about the dangers of blindly pursuing youth, written and directed by Coralie Fargeat from France.
"I'll leave you with one thing I believe this movie teaches," Moore said about the film. "In those moments when we feel we're not smart enough, pretty enough, thin enough, successful enough, or simply not enough: I had a woman tell me, 'Just remember, you will never be enough, but you can understand your worth if you stop measuring yourself.'"
As the audience burst into loud applause, award presenter Kerry Washington joked, "Good luck to the next person" who would have to follow Moore's impactful speech.
