Nintendo has revealed the Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo has officially unveiled its much-anticipated next-generation console and successor to the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2. The reveal came via a short teaser video, giving fans a glimpse of the upcoming console's functionality and design.
The teaser confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch in 2025. However, specifics like the exact release date, price point, and software lineup were notably absent.
Despite this, the video offered a first look at the console, showing off its slightly larger form factor, magnetically connected Joy-Con controllers, and a new capability to apparently use the Joy-Con as a mouse. Fans were also treated to a sneak peek of a new Mario Kart, though details about other exclusive launch titles remain under wraps.
Rumours about the console had been swirling for years, with recent leaks pointing to its physical design and technological upgrades. Many of these leaks have now been confirmed, including the Nintendo Switch 2's backward compatibility. The system is confirmed to support both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, alongside new titles exclusive to the updated hardware. However, Nintendo cautioned in the video that not all original Switch games may be fully compatible with the new console.
The announcement has generated a wave of excitement and curiosity, with fans eager for more information. Nintendo promised to share additional details in a Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2, as per reports.
