Veteran actress Suchanda hospitalised

Veteran actress Kohinoor Akhter, popularly known as Suchanda — the iconic actress of the golden era of cinema — has been hospitalised for the past few days. She is suffering from pneumonia.

The actress confirmed the news to The Daily Star. Speaking over the phone this afternoon, she said, "I have been in the hospital for five to six days and I have been diagnosed with pneumonia. I request everyone to pray for my quick recovery."

Suchanda received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to the film industry. In addition, she has won numerous other accolades throughout her career.

During the 1960s and '70s, she dominated Dhaka cinema with her powerful performances. Born in Jashore, Suchanda is the oldest sister of Babita and Champa, two other celebrated stars of the Bangladeshi film industry.

Beyond acting, she directed the acclaimed film "Hajar Bochhor Dhore", for which she received the National Film Award for Best Director.

Suchanda debuted as a lead actress in Subhash Dutta's "Kagojer Nouka" in the 1960s. One of her most iconic films is "Jibon Theke Neya".
