What mystery will ‘Feu’ reveal?
"Under this vast sky of God, why wasn't there any place for us?" asks Sunita Devi. Palash asks in response, "Do refugees even have a country or a nation? The lines above are dialogues from characters of Feu. The intriguing trailer of the project was released on January 26, focuses on the issues such as refugee and oppression which hints that the narrative might revolve around a story of persecution.
The story is set to take the audience through two distinct periods, as referenced in the trailer: one in 1979, and the other in 2002. Inspired by true events, Feu has been created with a compelling narrative. According to the director, Sukorno Shahed Dhiman, "Inspired by true events, we wanted to bring a fictional story that intertwines international politics with local politics and culture."
The director references the Khulna-Mongla region, which is featured in the trailer, to depict local politics and culture. A scene shows a young man rowing a boat alone in the glow of a setting sun. His desperate journey is revealed through dialogue, where he asks whether his father is alive or dead.
It is from this question that Daniel, the boy in the boat, begins to delve into the story. What awaits within the narrative will be unveiled at midnight on January 30, when the series is set to be released. Joining Daniel on this journey is his friend Sohel. As these two young men progress, buried histories start to surface.
Tanvir Apurbo plays Daniel, while Hossain Jibon plays Sohel. The director has placed great responsibility on them, and he believes they have delivered exceptionally well. Both are students involved in acting, and they earned their roles in Feu following a rigorous audition process.
Tanvir shared shared, "At the start of my career, I needed an experience like this. I worked not just as an actor, but as part of the entire unit. We had to shoot in remote locations. I did many things for the first time, and it was a great learning experience."
"As preparation for our roles, we had to work as salesmen. It was an amazing experience for us. By working as vendors, we overcame various personal limitations and learned the speaking style of the Khulna region. This experience will always be valuable for me," added Hossain.
The series derives heavily from the Morichjhapi Massacre. It features Tariq Anam Khan as Kazi, Chanchal Chowdhury as Sunil, Mostafizur Noor Imran as Marshal, Tahmina Othoi as Sunita Devi, and Rizvi Riju as Palash. According to the director, Sukorno Shahed Dhiman, all the characters in the series are political. He aimed to narrate the political stories of the Khulna-Sundarbans region. Feu is a manifestation of that vision.
