BPL 2025
BPL's non-payment issue

'We haven't faced a situation like this before'

Bangladesh star Mehedi Hasan Miraz said that a "different" circumstance is prevailing in this BPL and hoped that BCB will be able to manage things well and find a solution so as not to bring disrepute to the country's cricket.

The BPL has gone on this season with several franchises not making players' payments on time. Durbar Rajshahi and Chittagong Kings' conducts have already come under BCB's radar and the board yesterday held a meeting with the franchise owners although Chittagong's owner was absent during the meeting.

Khulna Tigers' captain Miraz remarked on the ongoing issues in the BPL during a press conference on Wednesday.

"We haven't faced a situation like this before and it's a first for every person. Everyone is going through an environment but I think everyone should support since you see that gates were broken for tickets. When a new environment comes, it's difficult. Things are happening differently this time but people should support each other. The problems that are occurring, I think the people in the board would manage it well. Ultimately, if things don't go well, it brings disrepute to all of us.

"If we don't maintain things well, it will bring disrepute to our cricket. It's everyone's responsibility to not bring disrepute to our cricket," Miraz opined.

Miraz also informed that there has not been too many issues regarding payments in the Khulna franchise.

"Already 40 percent payment has been made in our team and I have talked to our owner and he said that this week 30-35 percent payment will be given," he informed.

When asked if as a player he feels bad regarding what has transpired, he said: "Obviously it feels bad. At the end of the day, we play cricket for money. If we don't get our payments, it's bad for every player. Since the cricket board is our guardian, they will talk to everyone and take that responsibility of communicating with respective franchises."

Miraz also felt that the change in the country's political regime may have had an effect on BPL's planning.

"This year the situation is different and something like this never happened before [in the BPL]. If everyone considers it, our country is not in a settled state and that's why these problems are occurring… but those in charge of the tournament, the BPL governing council will work on it and find an effective solution and always stay beside the players," he said.
