The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) stated that it disapproves of the vandalism that took place to force off the women's football match at the Tilakpur High School ground in Joypurhat's Akkelpur upazila on Tuesday.

Some locals and madrasa students vandalised the venue for the friendly match between two female teams scheduled to take place today.

"Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) does not support vandalisation that took place to call off the women's football match at the Tilakpur High School ground in Joypurhat's Akkelpur upazila," a BFF press release read on Wednesday.

"Football is for everyone and women footballers have all the right to play sports. To create barriers in women's sports is against the development of sports. The Bangladesh Football Federation believes that everyone must come forward to continue the participation of women in sports.

"We urge the concerned authorities to carry out a proper investigation and take necessary steps and ensure that no obstacles are created for women to play football.

"We also call on local social organisations and personalities to come forward in aiding women's participation in sports so that women and girls can take part in football and other sports unobstructed."
