Following the social media controversy over two prominent actresses, Mehazabien Chowdhury in Chattogram and Pori Moni in Tangail, being prevented from attending launch events in their respective locations, another actress, Apu Biswas, has faced the same obstacle today. She was scheduled to inaugurate a restaurant in Dhaka's Kamrangirchar area.

After all the arrangements were finalised, the restaurant authorities began promoting the event on Facebook. However, as news of Apu Biswas's attendance spread, some local individuals took to Facebook to express their objections and protests. The matter escalated to Kamrangirchar police station, prompting the restaurant authorities to withdraw their decision to have Apu Biswas inaugurate the establishment.

Speaking to Prothom Alo this evening (Wednesday), Kamrangirchar Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC), Amirul Islam, confirmed the development.

Although Apu Biswas was unable to inaugurate the restaurant in Kamrangirchar, she inaugurated a showroom in Keraniganj yesterday. Meanwhile, reports suggest that the restaurant eventually opened on its own. Previously, actresses Pori Moni in Tangail and Mehazabien Chowdhury in Chattogram had also faced similar resistance while inaugurating showrooms.

Regarding the Kamrangirchar incident, OC Amirul Islam told Prothom Alo: "When the restaurant authorities began promoting Apu Biswas's participation in the inauguration, religious clerics objected. There are over two hundred madrasas in the area, and clerics voiced their protests on Facebook. They stated that if Apu Biswas were to inaugurate the restaurant, they would create unrest. I have also received screenshots of their posts. The matter was even brought to the attention of the Deputy Commissioner (DC). The restaurant owners later approached me, expressing their concern that bringing Apu Biswas might lead to disruptions. They told me, 'We are here to do business and need to maintain harmony with the people. We do not want any conflicts.'"

Meanwhile, three days ago, the Secretary General of the National Imam Council, A F M Akram Husain, posted a digital card on his Facebook account, addressing Apu Biswas's scheduled inauguration in Kamrangirchar.

Reports indicate that Apu Biswas was supposed to attend the inauguration of a restaurant named Sonar Thala in Kamrangirchar at 3:00 pm yesterday (Tuesday). Attempts were made to contact Apu Biswas for a statement, but she was unavailable for comment.
