Meryl Streep recounts escaping LA fire by carving hole in fence
When the wildfires swept through Los Angeles, engulfing upscale areas like Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and Santa Monica, many residents were forced to evacuate. Among them was Meryl Streep, who took an unconventional route to escape the flames. Her nephew, Abe Streep, revealed to New York Magazine Intelligencer how the acclaimed actress had to make a daring move to flee the crisis.
Abe shared that when Meryl received the evacuation order, her only way out was blocked by a fallen tree. With no clear exit, she took matters into her own hands—cutting a massive hole through her and her neighbour's fence, just wide enough for her vehicle to pass.
Abe recounted that, in a bid to escape, Meryl borrowed wire cutters from a neighbour and cut a large opening in the fence separating their properties. She then drove through the adjoining yard, finding an alternative route to safety.
While Abe did not disclose whether her home remained intact, numerous celebrities faced total devastation as the relentless fires consumed their properties.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, several well-known figures, including Mandy Moore, Anna Faris, Paris Hilton, Bozoma Saint John, Jeff Bridges, Billy Crystal, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, Cary Elwes, Diane Warren, Cameron Mathison, Ricki Lake, Jhené Aiko, and record producer Lou Adler, saw their homes reduced to ashes in the devastating blaze.
Many of them turned to social media to share heartbreaking images of the charred remains of their properties.
