Exports grew 5.7 percent year-on-year in January, driven by higher shipments of ready-made garments, the key export item for Bangladesh.

The country shipped $4.43 billion worth of merchandise in January, up from $4.19 billion in the same month a year ago, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) released today.

Garment exports rose 5.57 percent year-on-year to $3.66 billion during the month.

However, exports of leather and leather goods, as well as jute, declined.

The January receipts took total export earnings nearly 12 percent higher to $28.96 billion in the first seven months of the fiscal year 2024-25.

In the same period of fiscal year 2023-24, exports stood at $25.93 billion.
