Beximco, one of the largest conglomerates of Bangladesh, has announced another round of layoffs affecting five more manufacturing units, citing financial difficulties and a lack of work orders.

This latest decision will impact nearly 8,000 employees across different departments, further escalating the crisis for thousands of garment workers in the country.

According to the sources, these five units fall under Beximco Limited, a major division of the group.

This comes after the company had previously laid off nearly 40,000 workers across 15 of its apparel units due to a persistent shortage of orders in its export-oriented garment and textile factories in Gazipur.

"We are not receiving any work orders from the local manufacturers, leaving us with no choice but to declare layoffs," said Osman Kaiser Chowdhury, director of finance and corporate affairs at Beximco Group.
