Openers Parvez Emon and Khawaja Nafay smashed half-centuries and put on the highest-ever opening stand in a BPL final to propel Chittagong Kings to 194 for three against Fortune Barishal in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League in Mirpur on Friday.

Emon hit six fours and four sixes in an unbeaten 49-ball 78, while Nafay's 44-ball 66 featured seven fours and three sixes as the duo put on a 121-run stand, overtaking the 76-run stand by Tamim Iqbal and Mehedi Hasan Miraz in last year's BPL final.

Emon pummeled two fours off Kyle Mayers in the third over to get the innings motoring along before he took apart Tanvir Islam next over with a four and two huge sixes – one through deep mid-wicket and another straight over the bowler's head -- to assert his dominance. The left-handed batter kept up his charge as Chittagong blitzed to 51 in five overs, finishing the Powerplay at 57 for no loss.

Emon kept finding regular boundaries while Nafay, who started slowly, upped the ante as he grew into the innings. Just as Emon completed his 50 off 30 deliveries, Nafay hit Rishad Hossain for back-to-back sixes to reach his own half-century in 37 balls. By the time Ebadot Hossain dismissed Nafay, the duo had managed to bat for 12.4 overs, scoring 121.

Graham Clarke, who came in at three, understood the opportunity for a big score the openers had created and quickly got into his groove with a six over extra-cover off Mayers. Clarke would then clear the ropes with a six off Tanvir through mid-wicket in the 16th over and Emon would then take apart Tanvir with two more maximums in the same over which produced 22 runs for Chittagong.

Clarke fell run-out for a 23-ball 44 before Shamim Hossain was holed out at deep-mid wicket.
