Student leaders demand ban on AL within 24 hrs

Student leaders attended the namaz-e-janaza of Kashem Khan in Gazipur today called for a ban on the Awami League within 24 hours.
Kashem, who was injured in an attack near the house of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, passed away yesterday while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
His namaz-e-janaza was held around 11:35am at Rajbari ground in Gazipur today.
Before the janaza, Fariduzzaman Zahid, district general secretary of the Student Rights Council, said, "I demand a ban on the Awami League within 24 hours."
Naser, general secretary of the Student Against Discrimination, described Kashem as "the first martyr after the revolution in Bangladesh."
"The condition of others injured in the same incident remains critical. They could die at any time. We have heard that many of those involved in this killing are in hiding. I demand their immediate arrest," he added.
Hossain Ali, central majlis-e-shura member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, alleged, "Those arrested are being treated leniently, while in the past, our leaders were handcuffed and mistreated."
Imtiaz Ahmed Tanvir, central member of the Student Against Discrimination, said, "There has been no action from the Gazipur administration after this incident. We demand results. The Awami League must be banned, and all of its members must be removed from Gazipur. Those who opened fire in front of the DC office must be arrested."
Niaz Uddin, a neighbour of the deceased, said, "They not only attacked but also opened fire."
Bashir Ahmed, president of Jubo Dal Tongi West Police Station, declared that BNP and Jamaat would unite in protest, criticising the authorities for allowing Awami League supporters to remain active in the area without arrest.
