Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz board ‘Only Murders in the Building’ season 5

Two-time Oscar winners Renée Zellweger and Christoph Waltz are set to appear in the fifth season of "Only Murders in the Building", adding more star power to Hulu's hit mystery-comedy.
The acclaimed actors join previously announced cast member Keegan-Michael Key in the upcoming instalment, alongside the show's original leads—Steve Martin, Martin Short, Selena Gomez, and Michael Cyril Creighton—who are all confirmed to reprise their roles.
While exact character details for Zellweger and Waltz remain under wraps, their addition hints at another twist-filled chapter of the show.
Co-created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, the Emmy-nominated series centres on three neighbours with a shared passion for true crime who find themselves entangled in a series of real-life murder investigations within their Upper West Side building.
"Only Murders in the Building" took a playful approach to announcing Renée Zellweger's casting, posting a simple photo of her name embroidered on a director's chair.
The tongue-in-cheek move served as a clever contrast to Marvel's elaborate six-hour rollout for "Avengers: Doomsday".
Season four marked the series' most celebrity-packed outing yet, boasting a guest list that included comedy heavyweights and screen favourites like Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Richard Kind, Kumail Nanjiani, and Molly Shannon—alongside several surprise appearances and returning favourites.
In its review of the season, NME awarded four stars, noting, "The show takes a bit of time to find its footing, but once it does, the familiar charm returns. While the on-screen chemistry between Martin and Levy feels surprisingly subdued, Longoria shines with sharp comedic moments."
As the episodes unfold, the central mystery deepens and the show's trademark humour remains sharp as ever.
With season five on the horizon, fans are already speculating about dream cast additions — and if anyone can dial up Catherine O'Hara, it's Martin Short.
Since its 2021 debut, "Only Murders in the Building" has racked up an impressive 49 Emmy nominations, taking home four awards, including a win for Nathan Lane as Outstanding Guest Actor.
Season four also marked a milestone for Martin Short, who earned his first-ever Screen Actors Guild Award at age 74.
Meanwhile, off-screen buzz surrounds Short and Meryl Streep, who portrays his on-screen romantic partner.
Reports suggest the two icons have been quietly seeing each other for over a year.
