Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) cricket operations chairman and newly appointed convener of the CCDM technical committee, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, confirmed today that Mohammedan Sporting Club captain Towhid Hridoy will be suspended for his team's upcoming Dhaka Premier League [DPL] match against Gazi Group on April 26.

Hridoy's suspension, and the confusion surrounding his premature return to the field after serving just one game of a two-match ban, has sparked controversy and raised questions about administrative irregularities within domestic cricket.

The incident has already prompted the resignation of former CCDM technical committee convener Enamul Haque Moni, who stepped down in protest over the handling of the situation. Media reports have since highlighted procedural inconsistencies in how Hridoy was allowed to play before completing the full suspension.

A suspension reduced and a cancerous culture

Speaking on the matter, Fahim acknowledged the mishandling, saying, "I think we went outside of the process. Internally, the decision that was taken by changing the bylaws was not under the jurisdiction of this committee. So we have to follow the previous rules and regulations."

He added that although the decision to allow Hridoy to return early cannot be reversed, recent changes to the sanction process have been declared void. "The change we made recently will have to be accepted as void and the previous rule will have to be reinstated," Fahim stated.

When asked whether the revised rule issued by the umpires' department regarding demerit points and suspensions had been scrapped, Fahim replied, "Yes, the rule has been scrapped."

With the original suspension ruling reinstated, Hridoy will now miss Mohammedan's crucial fixture against Gazi Group as domestic cricket reels from the fallout.
