Former Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal on Saturday insisted that councillors must elect qualified people who have basic knowledge about cricket in the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections.

"I will make a small request to elect qualified representatives in the cricket board, whether they are from any district or division. They must have basic cricket knowledge," Tamim said during an inauguration programme of Bangladesh District and Divisional Sports Organisers Association (BDDSOA) at the NSC Auditorium.

"They also should have dream about taking Bangladesh cricket to a new height. I request to elect them," said Tamim, adding that those who don't make any development in their respective district or divisional cricket don't need to come to the board.

"We recognise cricket as Bangladesh's biggest sport. I'm saying this with respect to other sports. If anyone doesn't have any contribution in developing their own district or division cricket, I would say they don't need to come to the board," he added.

With the BCB election is knocking at the door -- expected to be held before October -- there are already rumours floating in the air that Tamim might contest in the election.

The 36-year-old's playing career is almost over after he suffered a massive heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League match in March, and recently Tamim informed that the decision regarding whether he would return to the field or not can only be made after three months.

However, since joining a new association, he has most likely given an indication that he may have been thinking of being an organiser life after his playing days.

Former footballer and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) lead Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, former Bangladesh football skipper Aminul Islam, and former cricket captain Khaled Mashud Pilot were also present during the same programme.
