Liton Das has been named captain of the Bangladesh T20I team till the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced today.
Liton takes over the role from Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is leading Bangladesh in the other two formats.
The wicketkeeper-batter has led Bangladesh in four T20Is before, including the national team's last T20I assignment, a three-match series against West Indies in the Caribbean last year, which the Tigers won 3-0.
The 30-year-old, who was not picked for the ICC Champions Trophy on the back of his poor form, will begin his captaincy tenure with a two-match series against the UAE this month, followed by a five-match series against Pakistan.
The selectors have also named a 16-man squad for both the UAE and the Pakistan series today. All-rounder Mahedi Hasan has been named vice-captain for both series.
