Rabada cleared to play after serving reduced doping ban

South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada has been cleared to return to cricket following a reduced suspension for testing positive for a banned recreational substance.
Initially handed a three-month ban after a failed dope test during the SA20, Rabada's suspension was shortened to one month after he completed an education and awareness program.
Rabada underwent drug testing on January 21 during the SA20 tournament, with the results announced on April 1 indicating the presence of a recreational drug.
In accordance with anti-doping regulations, a three-month suspension is standard for such violations, but the sentence can be reduced to one month upon completion of an approved rehabilitation program. Rabada has now fulfilled those conditions.
The 29-year-old had been representing Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) before returning home last month all of a sudden.
On Saturday, Rabada addressed the situation, stating, "As you know, for personal reasons, I left the IPL and returned to South Africa a few days ago. The reason is that I received a positive result in a drug test due to the use of a recreational substance."
Rabada featured in two matches for Gujarat Titans this season, with his last appearance on March 29. The team is currently fourth on the IPL points table and firmly in the playoff race. Rabada's return is expected to bolster their bowling attack during the crucial final stages of the tournament. He is also now eligible to represent South Africa in the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord's in June.
