Jamaat proposes measures for free, fair elections

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has submitted a set of proposals to the interim government aimed at ensuring the next national election is free, fair, and widely acceptable, party chief Shafiqur Rahman has said.

The proposals were placed during a meeting with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus yesterday, he said while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with tea workers in Moulvibazar's Kulaura upazila today.

"The chief adviser assured us that the upcoming election will be one that makes history — where every person will vote with a smile and no one will find their vote cast by someone else," he said.

The Jamaat leader said his party presented several suggestions to ensure electoral transparency and inclusive participation.

He also made it clear that Jamaat opposed providing any humanitarian corridor or use of ports under the interim government.

"We believe decisions on corridors and ports should be left to an elected government. If the interim administration wants to proceed, it must first seek opinions from all political parties," he said.

Turning to the issues of tea workers, Shafiqur stressed the importance of ensuring their rights and dignity.

"All citizens must live with equal rights. Tea workers are still deprived of many basic rights. If we are given the chance to serve through public mandate, we will work to improve their lives and help nurture the potential of their children," he said.

He outlined plans to provide education and involve tea workers in modern garden management practices, pledging an inclusive approach.

"We do not judge anyone based on religion. We want to build a harmonious society. To the tea workers I say — your call may take time to reach us, but our response will not be delayed. We are all equal stakeholders of this country."
