State support for July uprising families to rise by 74%

The interim government has earmarked Tk 405.20 crore in the proposed national budget for fiscal year (FY) 2025–26 to support the families of those killed or injured in the July mass uprising last year.
This marks a 74 percent increase from the current fiscal year's allocation of Tk 232.60 crore.
The funds will go towards allowances, medical care, grants, and rehabilitation.
In his budget speech today, Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed said, "A policy will soon be framed to provide allowances to the family members of July Mass Uprising martyrs and the wounded."
Alongside financial support, the government is taking steps to institutionalise the legacy of the uprising.
A dedicated body, the July Mass Uprising Directorate, has been established to preserve the history of the movement and support affected individuals, especially students, mentioned the adviser in his speech.
Meanwhile, plans are under way to transform the Gono Bhaban into the "July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum" as part of a broader initiative to honour the historic events of last year.
