Hearing on BRUR teacher 's bail petition adjourned till June 24

A Rangpur court today adjourned the hearing on a bail petition of Mahmudul Haque, an assistant professor at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), in connection with a murder case linked to the July uprising.

Mahmudul's lawyer Advocate Shamim Al Mamun submitted the bail petition on behalf of his client at Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1.

After hearing preliminary arguments, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Soyebur Rahman fixed Tuesday as the next date of hearing.

Advocate Mamun told the court that the allegation against his client is baseless. "Mahmudul Haque is completely innocent. The man he is accused of killing died of a stroke. This arrest is part of a conspiracy," he said.

Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Mamun added, "We presented our arguments and are hopeful that the court will grant bail on Tuesday."

Mahmudul's wife, Masuba Hasan Mun, who was present at the court, said, "I had hoped to take Mahmudul home today with dignity. But that didn't happen. He's been falsely implicated in a fabricated case. Even the district administration's official list of martyrs confirms that the man he allegedly killed died of a stroke."
