HSC, equivalent exams begin nationwide
The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations began across Bangladesh today, with a total of 12,51,111 students appearing under various education boards.
The exams commenced at 10:00am nationwide.
However, candidates along with their parents were seen gathering in front of the centres since 7:30am.
The gates were opened at 8:30am to facilitate timely entry on the first day of the exams, he said.
While visiting different exam centres, our photojournalist saw huge crowd in front of the centres as students and their guardians began gathering since morning.
Of the total candidates, approximately 10.55 lakh are registered under the nine general education boards, around 86,000 with the Madrasa Education Board (Alim), and over 1.09 lakh under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board.
The written examinations will continue until August 10, while practical exams are scheduled between August 11 and 21. This year, exams are being held at 2,797 centres across the country.
Compared to last year, the number of examinees has dropped by 81,882.
To ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the exams, the Ministry of Education has ordered the closure of all coaching centres nationwide until August 15.
Amid a surge in Covid-19 and dengue cases, the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has issued health directives for all examination venues.
Masks are mandatory for candidates and staff, and hand sanitisers will be available at all entry points, said Prof Khandoker Ehsanul Kabir, chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and head of the committee.
Centre authorities have been instructed to maintain strict cleanliness to curb the spread of dengue. Medical teams will remain on standby at each centre in coordination with local health officials.
