UP polls begin Mar 22

Election to 752 union parishads, the first phase of the root level elections throughout the country, will be held on March 22 in a partisan manner.

Election Commissioner M Shah Newaz announced the polls schedule today that has been divided in six phases. Union Parishad elections will end in June.

For the first phase, last dates for filing and withdrawal of nominations are February 22 and March 2 respectively. After EC completes scrutiny by February 24, polls sign will be allocated on March 3.

In the second phase, 710 union parishads will go to polls on March 31. In the third phase, 711 union parishads will go to polls on April 23.

In the fourth phase 728 union parishads will go to polls on May 7. In the fifth phase, 714 parishads will go to elections on May 28 and the remaining 660 will enter polls on June 4.
