Watch the moment Phil Hughes was struck (video)

Phillip Hughes, the Australia batsman touted to replace injured captain Michael Clarke for next week's test match against India, succumbed to the injuries two days after he was struck on the head while playing for South Australia against New South Wales.

The 25-year-old, who scored 63 runs for South Australia before being hit, passed away after injuries sustained while facing a bouncer from New South Wales fast bowler Sean Abbott at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The video aired by 3 News -- the television, internet and radio news service of New Zealand's first private commercial television channel TV3 – shows the left-hander, apparently dazed by the blow, stooped over and put his hands on his knees before falling face first onto the pitch, causing players and medical staff to rush to his aid.
