Students of a private university blocked Dhaka's key thoroughfare Mirpur Road this afternoon in protest against death of a student in road crash yesterday.

Riazuddin Tapu, 26, a student of ASA University was run over by a police-requisitioned minibus driving on the wrong side of the road in the capital's Kakoli area.

Protesting the death, the students of ASA University took to the streets around noon today, halting traffic on the both side of the road.

Around 1:20pm, transport movement resumed partially after the students freed one lane of the road, said Biplob Kumar Sarkar, Tejgaon division deputy commissioner of Dhaka police.

The blockade was later removed around 2:25pm after the police official assured of justice and compensation for the family of the victim, said Rashidul Islam, a student.

However, threats were on to return to demonstrations if "just actions" are not taken by Saturday.
