Viber, WhatsApp unblocked
Mobile applications Viber, WhatsApp, Tango, Mypeople and Line were unblocked today days after they were curbed in the country by the government for security reasons.
They were unblocked under instructions from Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Zahir Ahmed, managing director of BD Link Communication Ltd, a terrestrial cable and internet gateway company, told The Daily Star.
“The curb has been lifted since midnight yesterday,” he said.
Viber and Tango were blocked on Monday while three others WhatsApp, Mypeople and Line curbed the following day for security reasons.
These mobile applications allow free phone and messaging services, what the intelligence bodies of the country said was being used by the BNP to carry out subversive activities throughout the country during 20-party combine’s agitation.
