1 killed, 3 missing in Meghna trawler capsize

One person died and three others remain missing as a goods-laden trawler sank in the Meghna river at Ashuganj upazila in Brahmanbaria this morning.

An overweight trawler sank in the river near Ashuganj launch ghat around 7:00am, Md Abu Zafar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ashuganj Police Station, told The Daily Star.

The trawler carrying at least ten people and a large amount of stationary goods was heading towards Bhairab, the OC added.

On information, police and firefighters rushed to the spot and salvaged the trawler.

They also recovered a body of a man aged around 40 years, the police official said.

Three passengers of the trawler remain missing, the OC said.   

Police and divers from the Fire Service and Civil Defence are conducting their rescue operation, he said.
