Avijit killing: Farabi on 5-day remand

Shafiur Rahman Farabi, the prime suspect in the killing of writer-blogger Avijit Roy, was placed on a five-day remand in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology Act.

Fazlur Rahaman, Inspector of Detective Branch of police and also investigation officer of Avijit killing case, sued Farabi in the case filed with Shahbagh Police Station today for issuing threat to kill Roy through Facebook.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Atiqur Rahman passed the order after another DB Inspector Wahiduzzaman, also the IO of the new case, produced Farabi before it with a 10-day remand prayer on completion of the his 10-day remand in the killing case.

In the remand prayer, Wahiduzzaman said Farabi had given Roy death threats on Facebook. So, he needs to be remanded in order to find the motive behind the threat.

Unknown assailants hacked and brutally killed the Bangladeshi born American citizen and seriously injured his blogger wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya on the Dhaka University campus on February 26.

Later on March 5, a four-member team of FBI arrived in Dhaka to help the investigation in the case as per the assurance given by US Department of State.
