WI quash UAE to 'qualify' in final 8

West Indies eased a six-wicket victory over associate nation UAE at Napier today to move on to the quarterfinals as the number three from Pool B in the World Cup 2015.

Now, the final spot in the quarterfinals lies with the winner of the Pakistan-Ireland play at Adelaide. Ireland would have to win big to secure the spot and send Pakistan home.

The only way to send West Indies home is now a tie between Pakistan and Ireland.

Put to bat first, UAE crumbled under fast bowling before Amjad Javed, 56, and Nasir Aziz, 60, heaved the side to 175. Most other batsmen failed to reach double figures.

Jason Holder, the West Indies captain, was the peak of bowlers claiming four wickets. Jerome Taylor took three wickets, Andre Russell two and Marlon Samuels one.

On chase of the low total, West Indies and lost four wickets in the process of sealing a win with the contributions from Johnson Charles, 55, and Jonathan Carter, 50 not out.

Manjula Guruge and Amjad Javed claimed two wickets apiece.
