Into the bloom
Seasonal fashion isn't always about wearing wool in winter and linens in summer. With the change in seasons, we see the dominance of some colours and prints over others. And what could be more synonymous with spring than floral prints?
For those of us who love feminine tones and prints, florals are always a favourite. While it's true that floral prints are always easy on the eyes, there are a few ways to really bring out the best in your favourite floral print piece.
Prints with plains
When it comes to prints, less is always more. Pair printed pieces with the plain for maximum impact. Wear floral tops with light blue or white jeans. If your pants have floral prints, wear a simple, flowing chiffon top for that extra spring in your step.
A floral printed kameez will look best with plain coloured bottoms. Some floral kameez sets have matching scarves in a lighter fabric like chiffon. If not, opt for a plain scarf to accompany the shalwar kameez.
If you have a favourite cotton or silk floral scarf, wear it with a monotone linen shirt so that it stands out. A floral print sari will look classy with a simple blouse.
Prints with pastels
If you're thinking of a flower garden theme like we are, floral prints on pastels are the stuff dreams are made of. Since flowers represent naturally vivid colours, it's no surprise that floral prints that reflect the shades portrayed by real flowers are the most appealing.
We highly recommend a hand-painted floral Muslin sari for an ethereal appearance. There are floral fabrics with 'paar' available in fabric shops that can be used to make casual kameez sets, and the ones in pastel shades look best during the day.
Ensure the quality of your floral printed piece before you buy, as there are a lot of bad quality printed fabrics in the market with overlapping prints and colour leaks. If you want to buy clothes with prints of flowers of a larger size, keep in mind that the softer prints will look better than solid outlines and contrasting colours. And avoid floral prints which are reminiscent of Hawaiian shirts!
The right finishing touches
What can be prettier with floral prints than pearls? A floral sari is incomplete with a string of pearls to enhance its beauty. Steer clear of silver or bright gold jewellery. However, white gold or rose gold will suit floral prints.
Use bright pink or coral on your lips and nails. For the eyes, apply a little shimmer to bring out your eyes and layer on a simple winged eyeliner. Use blush in pinkish tones to achieve a glowing skin look. Try to avoid too much bronzer, as the orangey tones of bronzer will clash with the floral prints. Instead, add some highlighter to the apples of your cheeks. Add some loose curls to your hair or gather your hair to one side for a messy bun.
