Bobby Hajjaj, special adviser to Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, today declared himself an independent mayoral candidate for the upcoming Dhaka North City Corporation polls scheduled for April 28.

He made the announcement in a press conference at his Banani business office in Dhaka.

"JP Chairman HM Ershad is a father idol to me and I try to seek his advice and suggestion. I hope his blessing is with me and will always be," he told a questioner.

"I am declaring myself an independent candidate for the upcoming DNCC polls as it is a nonpartisan election," he added.

"I was born in Dhaka. So, I want to take care of the capital and uphold the desires of the city dwellers," said Hajjaj, son of business tycoon Musa Bin Shamser.

Hajjaj also asked his followers not to create any division in the JC and called upon the people to vote for him.

Elections to Dhaka and Chittagong city corporations will be held on April 28, according to the polls schedule announced on March 18.

The last election to the undivided Dhaka City Corporation was held in April 2002, and the tenure of the representatives elected through it expired in May 2007.
