Where creative minds thrive: Colours of Boishakh by Koral Events
Koral Events organised an exhibition and fashion show featuring the works of contemporary Bangladeshi women fashion designers on March 26th, 2015 at the atrium of Home and Décor mall in Progoti Shoroni. The exhibition began at 11:30 am followed by the fashion show at 7 pm. The event was organised to celebrate the arrival of the Bengali New Year on April 14th with the latest summer designs.
The participants of the event were Koral Klauset, Kimaya Design Store, Payera, Shahnaz Hamid Kid's Wear, Rida Boutique, D. Nizam's Jewellery, Nubyra's, Athena Furniture, Kabab Factory, Turkish Bazar, Kazi & Kazi Tea and Meena Herbal. The beauty partner of the event was Women's World.
Most of the fashion boutiques such as Koral Klauset, Payera and Rida focused on the use of hand and machine embroidery and screen and block printing. Fabrics such as silk, cotton, linen and rubia georgette were used frequently. For Boishakh, the boutiques emphasised on using comfortable fabrics such as cotton and used block and screen printing techniques paired with detailed buttons and stone, sequence and patch work. Traditional colours of Boishakh, such as red and whites dominated the clothing line. However, there were also outfits in soothing pastels and dazzling purples, blacks and blues.
Some fashion boutiques designed only a particular type of outfit. For instance, Nubyra's only had Western inspired gowns and tops with zardosi and machine embroidery work. Fashion brand, Exquisite Untucked Casuals had only panjabis for men. These were made mostly in cotton and silk with simple yet stylistic cuts, and detailing on cuffs, buttons and collars. Parisa fashion had only unstitched screen print kurtis and shalwar kameezes. Just Kids had dresses only for girls aged 0-12 years made from imported cottons, linens and silks.
There were some non-clothes based shops too. Hair and beauty brand, Meena Herbal presented its products that ranged from face scrubs and foot creams to shampoos and conditioners. Food stalls of Kabab Factory, Turkish Bazar and Kazi & Kazi Tea Roll offered delicious food and beverages to entertain the customers throughout the day.
The fashion show was choreographed by Ashikur Rahman Pony. It was attended by dignitaries, celebrities, artists and admirers of exquisite designs. The ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Lee Yun-young, Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan, Samina Mehtab, Vice President of Bangladesh Employers, Sabrina Islam and past President of SAARC Women's Association, Sonia Imran were present at the fashion show. Renowned artists, fashion designers and actresses such as Kuhu Plamondon, Tootli Rahman, Shomi Kaiser and Tarin Ahmed were also present.
All the boutique shops run online via Facebook and websites. For more information about the event and products, contact Rupo Shams of Koral Events at 01711100091.
