HC stays Rizvi’s remand in vandalism case
The High Court today stayed for a month, a three-day remand of BNP joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi under police custody in a vandalism case.
Moved by a writ petition, the HC also issued a rule upon the government explain by two weeks as to why the remand order against Rizvi should not be declared illegal.
The bench of Justice Md Nuruzzaman and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order that stayed a previous Dhaka court’s remand order for the BNP leader for a month.
The remand order, in a vandalism case with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police, was issued on March 31, Rizvi’s lawyer Sagir Hossain Leon told The Daily Star.
The police have not taken him on remand in this case yet, he said, adding that the police cannot take him on remand following the HC stay order.
