Bus firebombed in N’ganj, 1 held

A passenger bus was firebombed today after the Supreme Court upheld war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman’s death penalty.

An alleged member of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student affiliate of Jamaat, identified as Yusuf Hossain from Modonganj upazila, was held in this connection.

Shibir activists hurled several petrol bombs and vandalised a bus of Anondo Paribahan at Don Chamber area around 4:00pm, reports our correspondent quoting Monzur Quader, officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Model Police Station.

The detainee was said to have been among the Shibir activists who were detained while attempting to flee the scene after the arson.

None was hurt in the incident as the passengers got off the bus before the bus set ablaze. On information fire fighters reached the place and doused the fire.
