Kamaruzzaman should be given reasonable time: AG
War criminal Muhammad Kamaruzzaman should be given reasonable time if he wants to seek presidential mercy, the attorney general said today.
Reasonable time means the period that needs to write a mercy petition to the president, Mahbubey Alam said while talking to reporters at his office.
Alam’s came up with the remark after the Jamaat assistant secretary general met his lawyers and sought more time from the jail authorities to decide on seeking the president’s mercy.
The AG said Kamaruzzaman’s verdict will be executed as per the direction of the government under the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act 1973.
Jail Code provision will not be applicable in his case, the attorney general said.
If Kamaruzzaman seeks mercy, he cannot be executed until the president disposes of his mercy petition, Alam further said.
