167 DCC aspirants facing legal charges
At least 167 aspirants, including mayors and councillors, of the two city corporations in Dhaka are accused in different kinds of cases including murder.
Among the 464 councillor candidates of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls at least 91 aspirants are facing several charges, while 72 or 356 aspirants of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls are accused in several cases, says a report published by Shushashoner Janny Nagorik today (Sujon).
The report was published in a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity today.
Only one mayor candidate out of 16 aspirants in DNCC is facing a murder charge, while three mayor candidates out of 20 in DSCC are facing several charges including murder case, the report added.
According to the report, businessmen aspirants outnumbered all other professionals in both the city corporations – 67.20 percent in DNCC and 71.28 percent in DSCC.
On the other hand, 59.40 percent aspirants of the DNCC could not cross the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) level, while the number in DSCC is even bigger – 66.73 percent, the report stated.
Leaders of Shujan said they published the reports so that the voters of the two city corporation polls could choose their candidates easily.
“Before casting the votes it is the right of a voter to get information about the candidates,” said Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of Shujan.
Hameeda Hossain, executive member of Shujan, and Dilip Kumar Sarkar, central coordinator, also spoke in the programme.
