Pahela Baishakh 1422: Shopping Spree (Video)
People are thronging the boutiques and fashion houses in Dhaka to complete the last-minute shopping spree for celebrating Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year.
Unlike the festivities during Eid or Puja, Pahela Baishakh is an occasion for people from all walks of life, irrespective of religion, race or creed. People generally buy panjabi, fatua, sari salwar kameez, ornaments and footwear for the festival.
Most shop-owners are happy with this year’s sale as it will help them recoup some losses incurred during the political unrest in last three months.
However, today’s hartal affects sales of the dressmakers to some extent.
Of the annual sales, Pahela Baishakh's sales make up 25 percent and the month of Ramadan 50 percent.
Let’s begin the new years with new clothes new hopes in your heart.
