AL leader scuffles with RU VC

Rajshahi city Awami League General Secretary Dablu Sarkar today scuffled with Vice-Chancellor Prof Mizan Uddin at the latter’s office over recruiting ruling party men at Rajshahi University.

“Dablu along with 20 to 25 of his party men entered the VC office this noon and scuffled with the VC over his demand for recruiting people of his choice,” Elias Hossain, administrator of the public relations office at the university, told The Daily Star.

Dablu asked the VC to appoint AL men in the RU and threatened him of dire consequences if the demand is not met, said Elias.

“I will place a list before you (VC) and you are bound to provide them with jobs. Otherwise, I will talk to the prime minister and will see how you remain in the VC post,” Elias quoted Dablu as saying.      

At one stage, Dablu also assaulted Anada Kumar Saha, president of the RU Teachers Association, its student adviser Sadequl Arefin Tamin and science faculty dean Habibur Rahman as they were trying to calm him down.

“The university authority provides job as per the act,” VC Mizan Uddin told The Daily Star.

“It will not be acceptable if anyone makes illogical demand for job,” the VC added.

He also termed the incident sorrowful and said, “I felt embarrassed by the misbehavior of the Awami League leader.”

Dablu blamed the RU authorities for promoting and patronising the BNP and Jamaat men in the university administration.

“Today I met the VC only to know his stance in this regard,” he told The Daily Star, denying the allegation of scuffling with the VC.
