Fans' longing finally over

Friday afternoons are supposed to be that time of the week when local buses aren't jam-packed and when you can actually manoeuvre your way through the city and reach your destination on time. Yesterday was almost the same; provided you didn't have any plans around Mirpur, because that part of the city was rumbling with joyous fans eagerly awaiting the Tigers match against Pakistan.
As a bus was forced to take turn right and deviate away from their normal path in front of the stadium, the conductor quickly shouted to the driver, "Chacha, stop for a while, the entire bus is going to get down here." And so, full buses became empty as fans gathered around the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium prior to the start at 2:30 pm.
They all felt yesterday could be one of those special days for the Tigers and they rushed towards the gates in a bid to stay ahead of the queue. "I have a feeling that after today we won't need to watch the win against Pakistan in 1999 repeatedly," an ecstatic Ashfaque Chowdhury, a private university student said.
It was a special from Tamim Iqbal that helped Ashfaque and the rest of the fans' dreams come true. As Tamim neared his century, the entire stadium resonated with his name; a sight witnessed after a long time.
"The last time Tamim played like this was back in 2010, I think in England. I watched that on TV and I always dreamt of watching a similarly aggressive innings live, and today that dream of mine came true," smiled Abida Chowdhury, a student from Dhaka University.
