'Robber' beaten dead in Narayanganj

An alleged robber was beaten to death by a mob during an incident of robbery in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj last night.

The dead was identified is Rubel, 25, son of Daud Mia of Brahmandi area in the upazila, reports our Narayangnaj correspondent.

Rubel was said to have been chased down by locals when a gang of robbers were trying to rob passers-by on Madanpur-Narsingdi road around 11:00pm, police said.

Rubel of Brahmandee union was beaten by the people, leaving him dead on the spot, Md Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Araihazar Police Station, said.

The victim’s father alleged that locals caught his son from the road and beat and stabbed him mercilessly without reason until he died.

Police took the body to the Araihazar Police Station and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy.

OC Md Alamgir Hossain said Rubel was wanted in eight robbery cases.
