A phenomenal change has occurred to the Dhaleshwari River in the last two decades. For the people, who did not see the river before, it would be almost impossible to think that the vast field stretched to the tree line on the horizon was the river's bed before, and it used to be full of water. Even only five years ago, water would reach the abandoned jetty (the metal structure on the right). Now all that remains of the river is a channel, narrow enough to be called a canal. Siltation is blamed for the drying up of the river. The photo was taken in Elasin area of Tangail's Delduar upazila on Thursday. Photo: Mirza Shakil
