Vessel sinks in Bay of Bengal
A lighter vessel capsized with 850 tonnes of coal in the Bay of Bengal near the Sandwip channel in Chittagong this afternoon.
The accident took place due to rough sea, said Mahbub Rashid, an executive director of Water Transport Cell, a private organisation that coordinates the vessels.
All the crew of the vessel MV Master Shohag were rescued by a lighter vessel, he added.
The vessel heading for Dhaka sank in the bay some 5 to 7 miles away from Sandwip channel at 1:00pm, Rashid said.
